Gewurtraminer

Wine of the Month - Gewurztraminer - New

The oldest Gewurtraminer vineyard is over 400 years old orginally called Savagnin grape from Trentino Alto Adige Northern Italy and now also grows in Alsace both cool climate regions. The skin of the Gewurztramer grape is actually pink not pale green so these pigments give it a deep golden colour, the aroma is a lychees and exotically tropical on a background of rose petals.

Alsace in eastern France is Gewurtraminer’s most significant home ground though originally imported from Germany Pfalz region across the Rhine it performs best in the heavier clay soild of Alsace’s Haut Rhin dept and can achieve the rich ripeness needed for expensive late soil harvest Vendage Tardive and Selections of Grains Nobles.
